Getting Skype to work on Ubuntu

It took me a while to figure this out, so here is how I got Skype
working. Hope it helps someone. The FAQ and docs on the Skype site are
geared for KDE and artsd. It mentions esd, but only in passing and the
program they suggest using isn't installed on Ubuntu by default.

1. download and install Skype. 
2. sudo apt-get install esound-clients
3. launch skype like this:

 $ esddsp ./skype

4. call the special skype user 'echo123' to test your setup (it's an
answering service that plays back you say after a 10 second delay).

That's it. Works fine for me using just the built-in sound on an Intel
motherboard.
