Lost sound?!

If you type alsamixer in a terminal, do you see 'MM' above any of your
mixer channels?

If you do, pressing space should toggle muting off. Use 'esc' to back
out. The do a 'sudo alsactl store'.

This fixed a similar issue for me under Hoary.
