Since I posted the original  query, I've been investigating  cfdisk and 
came across something about maximizing a partition with the letter ' 
m'.  Can someone explain what is meant by maximizing ---could it 
possibly mean restoring the selected partition back to it's original 
partition boundaries?   I don't dare running this until I know what 
maximizing does.
