I tried reading a bunch of CD, some 7 year old, some crappy home made
CDs, some commercial CDs, some Linux CDs, some Win 95 CDs, some Win XP
CDs, some MS-DOS CDs. And all work well. Albeit some take 3 or 4 seconds
to initiliaze, and also whilst doig so, the drive's mechanism sounds
very noisy.
So it looks like it basically works, and that I was just unlucky with
that Suse CD. My dad said he used the burner quite a lot so maybe it's
either dirty and/or about to pass away.
I will probably have to change it for a cheap IDE one whe it dies, but
since I have not paid a penny for it, would be great if at least it
could BURN files. :o(
