oh, no no no... that is not wise....

what you should do is log in as root, and then type "visudo" (one 
word)... that puts you into an editor that will modify that file above, 
but will also validate your input before saving it -- in order to 
prevent you inadvertently mucking it up...

the folks who wrote sudo included visudo for just this reason....
