I am setting up a smarthost with TLS authentication because all the
ISPs I use require it to minimize the risk of hijacked SMTP servers.

As for different ports, that's one of the good things about
fastmail.fm as an email ISP -- they give you LOTS of options for
US$20/year, including different ports to get around firewalls.
