Hardware Raid?

I'm trying to get Ubuntu to install on a system using a hardware raid-1
setup. I have 2-120gb hard drives configured for hardware raid-1 on a
Highpoint Rocketraid 100 card.
Now, normally, when you use hardware raid-1, the 2 drives act as 1, and
the operating system is none-the-wiser. I actually have a windows
partition on the drive, and windows only saw 1-120gb hard drive. I've
had FreeBSD on this system as well, and its installer only saw 1-120gb
hard drive (like it should).
Here is the confusing part to me. I run the Ubuntu install cd, and when
it comes to partitioning my hard drive, it gives me a menu saying:
Disk to partition:
>Erase entire disk: IDE5 master (hde) - 120.0gb WD
>Erase entire disk: IDE6 master (hdg) - 120.0gb WD
Manually edit partition table.
So, ubuntu is seeing BOTH hard drives, and is ignoring the hardware raid
setup. If I go to 'manually edit partition table', it wants to either
configure a software riad, or set up partitions without a raid, across
both hard drives (Each drive listed has an identical partition layout,
40gb ntfs, and 74gb free space).
Has anyone ever seen this before? I'm baffled by it, 1) by the fact
that Ubuntu can see through the hardware raid array, and 2) that it wont
use hardware raid-1.
Thank you,
