Sound playback : timing is off !

I've noticed previously that some mp3's have played at the wrong pitch 
(timing seems ok, it's just pitch) when they where variable rate mp3's 
encoded with a dodgy encoder.  Same versions of the same encoder 
complied on different systems where affected.

Just like your symtoms they seemed to come and go but at some point an 
update fixed it.

We also had problems earlier this year with some versions of the 
lugradio (www.lugradio.org ;-) ) show encoded as mp3 that the team 
couldn't reproduce.  This was due to the encoder used as well.

use oggs? ;-) or try a different player seemed to be the only real 
solution back then.
