Can you get an IP address from DHCP at all?

If so, check your /etc/network/interfaces

You should have something like the following...

auto eth0 
iface eth0 inet dhcp

If you have got that and you still have no love install tcpdump and see what's going on.  If you
have access to the router/device that is handing out the IP addresses
via DHCP check the logs and see if there are errors.
