karl,
is it possible that the manner ftp is being used is a bit odd ?
can you enlighten us with what happens in the mechanics of this ftp
that would cause one to suggest disabling it.
i have not experienced ANY problems at all with any of the ftp incantations
on ubuntu.
what is the nature of the problem if you wouldnt mind ?
perhaps we can root out the problem.
