I had a similar problem, but it wasn't due to IPV6. It seems my DNS
settings included a domain search list, and my conclusion was that any
name look up was done by first appending what was in the search list,
which of course fails/times out and eventually it looks up the name on
its own.
Have you tried going to a site using its IP address literally? I had the
same problem with telnet, and telnet'ing with an IP address was
instantaneous, where with the name it took several seconds.
I kind of solved it by removing the entries in the search domains list
in Network Setting dialogue box. However, the list seems to come back
when I reboot!
