386 to 686 updating

Yes, these are the packages you can remove:
linux-386
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.8.1-2-386
linux-image-2.6.8.1-2-386

If you find more -386 packages installed (search for -386 in synaptic)
these can probably be removed as well.
