Actually I've workarounded the problem using network stanza
in /etc/network/interfaces. When I need to connect to AirMat e.g. (A
DHCP based Wi-Fi Network in my Uni) I use:
ifdown eth1 "Shutdown default eth1 network"
ifup eth1=airmat "airmat is the relative eth1 stanza"
This works fine for now but is, as you can see, a pure console solution
so I need to open a terminal each time under GNOME. An applet would be
much more useful (Your aproach to the problem).
