This is what we did for Open Everything back in 2008 and 2009. In 2008, we
had meetings in Berlin, Hong Kong, and Madison. They weren't at the same
time, but we overlapped with each group. If you coordinated the same time,
or at least overlapping times, then you could all get in IRC together, or
have a webRTC call or something.

In 2009, it was NYC and Madison, in case anyone was curious.

Open Everything died for a variety of reasons. Non-Profit Day Madison came
out of Open Everything, as did the Music Manumit Podcast. I don't really
know the legacy of the other cities, but the guy who coordinated the Hong
Kong and NYC events ended up working for github. I think that ended up
taking a lot of his time.

Of course, there is a major difference. Open Everything was a new
organization. It wasn't an organization we split up.
