[ubuntu-us-ut] weeping, wailing and gnashing teeth with 10.04

Greets all,
I wanted to post something to group in hopes of saving some time for some of
you guys who may run into a problem similar to mine, whilst installing
10.04.
In my limited understanding of the whole situation, if you're running a
laptop with an older intel graphics chip, the install to 10.04 may appear to
stall and give a blank screen.
Or, if you've forced your way through the install using an alt-install
Ubuntu 10.04 iso like i did, then the blank screen comes up every time the
computer starts up.
The solution that worked for me, as described here (
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1463294 )
was to modify the grub config by:
sudo nano /etc/default/grub
then modifying this line
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
to this
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i915.modeset=1"
this has allowed me to be able to utilize 10.04. Now in reading
http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Intel_GMA
i think there may be more to do, something about framerate buffer, but i'm
working on that, or if somebody knows, let me know.
