Madwifi is still flaky for the newly upgraded wireless 'n' that the
Macbooks use.  I used ndiswrapper on mine for very stable performance
(if you don't mind the single non-free driver), which is completely
outlined on my blog.

Those are the pages (primarily the first) that I used for mine.  I have
some additional steps outlined throughout my blog (search: macbook).  I
also, on my personal machine, re-install Mac OSX to a minimal size (10G
on mine) so that I can get firmware updates, and the rest of the machine
is setup for Ubuntu.  It is technically a dual-boot system, but the OS X
side is the only way to get firmware updates, which I really recommend
you have access to.  The last big one I did upgraded my wireless signal
strength and extended my battery life as well.

If you'd like I can send you what notes I have now, or you I can try to
wrap up what I have of my tutorial if you can wait just a bit.  ---I'm
sure we could even meet up at Ubuntu Live and I could walk you through
it if you like.
