Ubuntu upgrade

I agree with the others...if you want a full backup, then use dd to
get a system image, or just back up important config files if it's
easier to do a fresh install of 12.04 LTS.

I have never had to roll back to a previous version after doing an
Ubuntu release upgrade. I have done a release upgrade from 12.04 LTS
to 14.04 LTS on a couple of systems and it worked fine for me. I try
not to do more than one upgrade before backing things up and doing a
fresh install, just because it cleans out a lot of crap, especially
for desktop systems.
