Ubuntu upgrade

When I am in this situation, I buy a new drive.  Since drives ware out, 
this means my data is now on a fresh new drive.  I have a full backup 
that is bootable.  And I have more space. :)  I would buy a drive, 
install 14.04, and copy over the home directory.
