There isn't a great rewind function. You're best bet is to have your /home
directory on a separate partition so that you can fall back to creating a
new system from that.
If you have other systems in other places you may instead want to looking
at using dd to take a block level image of your system. and using that as a
'restore' point, but it is unlikely that that would fit on a cd.
