Brent,
Yeah, it seems that just about all of linux imaging packages use some
form of partimage. I think clonezilla is some kind of amalgam of
different imaging packages. My personal favorite is Ghost4Linux (g4l)
but Jim has me looking at Clonezilla now. It's supposed to have a
better interface for networked imaging. I really haven't tried it yet.
Yes, it would be awesome if you could help with their disk imaging
system. Probably wouldn't take too much time either. You think you
could setup a server that we could connect to a network switch with 3 or
4 of his laptops? Would make a great demo for Stan. Probably wouldn't
need to be very powerful either. I have at least one desktop I could
lend for this.
The laptop refurbishing is flexible. I really doubt we'll get many
people that will be able to physically be at NTR once a month. That's
why I think the option to work (or play) from home would be perfect.
The model for this isn't set in stone and may never be. It's possible
we'll have only 2 or 3 people that go to NTR to sort and retrieve
potentially good laptops from the inventory. Then there could be
another group that distributes. I really want to be careful that nobody
get overwhelmed. This should be fun and educational.
For those of you unaware, The Hacktory (thehacktory.org) is moving into
a 3rd floor space at NTR. They may end up being the initial customers
for these laptops. I met with them yesterday. Great people.
