Yes, on both PowerPC and Intel Macs. The PowerPC port is no longer
supported as an official build, though, and there exists no Flash
plugin for Linux on PPC (you have to use Gnash, which has
less-than-stellar results on many Flash-enabled sites).
For Intel Macs:

OpenOffice has a version for Windows.
How can a school demand people have Windows 7 when is not even
scheduled to be released until October?
Your daughter is not receiving a computer education, rather
indoctrination. I'd fight that, if I were you.
