there's *almost* always someone in the room ... mine and several other nicks are always present, and myself and a few others keep tabs on what goes on there most of the day. sometimes we're in meetings or whatnot, but generally respond to questions/salutations as soon as we see them.
i'm an oldbie but have no problem with handholding. i distinctly remember my hand being held. a lot. :) so just ask.
