[ubuntu-us-nc] Meeting Schedule for Tuesday, June 9, 2009

As you can tell, I'm new to the team and the lists and all..

However, I am definitely going to help the Ubuntu/Linux movement.

As of now, I have two people in my "waiting list". I'm migrating them from
Windows XP and Vista to Ubuntu 9.04. I showed it to them on my Aspire One,
they loved it and want to switch. That was without showing them the really
awesome 3D Cube and stuff, as my laptop is far too slow for those things.

I'm doing these upgrades for free, and I am making a database of systems
I've installed it on, that way anyone can see what is supported on their
system, and how to make the things work that wouldn't normally.

I will of course put this on a site, probably my own Wiki. Once it's up I'd
like everyone to contribute to it, also, it will not be just for Ubuntu,
just Linux and BSD in general.

I am also working on a grassroots form of advertising for Ubuntu. I'm
currently getting ready to download the DVD Image of Ubuntu, and I'm about
to distribute some around town in these little packages. Contained in them
will instructions for installing Ubtunu on generic systems, and my contact
information for tech help, along with links to some great forums for help.
This may or may not be a good way to encourage use of Ubuntu, however, I
also think I'll be nice and include 1GB flash drives in the package, so
people can back up their old files, along with instructions on how to back
up files to it and things.. I'm not really sure yet. Maybe I'll just find a
local computer store that is freedom friendly, and let them give them off.

But of course, I'm not really sure yet.. I think I may just post the ads I
was speaking of eariler, along with my email address so people could contact
me, then I would get to know them and their system better. If I convert 3
system to Ubuntu, those could convert 3 each. Even if they have to call me
for help, it's still a start.

I'm in North Eastern North Carolina, I may add.. as far as I know I'm the
only Ubuntu user in this town. That's defintely a bad thing, as I have no
help with my project. I'd ask others to help with this, as I do not know if
there are any users in this area. Are there?

Thanks for listening to my rambling..

-Zach
