[ubuntu-us-mn] DNS problem with Ubuntu 10.04?

if you pass ping a domainname ping needs to start by asking dns to resolve
the name.  to skip the dns query pass ping an ip address.  use host or dig
to do a dns query without a ping.  if your isp dns is flaky you can use
some other dns, eg google's 8.8.8.8.
