[ubuntu-us-mn] Loaded Ubuntu and Samba and cannot see Samba domain

Not necessarily, IIRC Samba controls the name resolution through nmbd and  
XP should have NetBIOS enabled by default so they should see each other  
(although it might take a few minutes).
