Sorry, but this is more of a Windows question you are asking. How to get
a native version of Windows Vista to work in a Virtualbox guest. The
fact that you're running Virtualbox on ubuntu host makes no difference
to this working or not working.
But a couple notes:
The feature you're looking for is in VMware. I don't think what you're
trying to do is going to work in Virtualbox yet. At least, I haven't
seen it documented as working. Native disk mode or not.
Windows Vista? Really? Name one advantage you're getting from this over
XP. I can name one disadvantage you've already run into. No hardware
profiles.
