Ha!  That was it.  I do smb://ibexits-wks08/storage/ in Nautlius and get pwd
prompt.  Not sure why I never tried that in trouble-shooting.  I'm falling
off my game....

Oh, and I didn't read the whole thread, but I wonder if MS is messing with
share levels and how list of shares are accessed.  A few years back I
remember in Domain structures and in SMB.CONF you could set it to require
authentication to get list of shares or not.  SAMBA was easy, just play with
share level directive (user, share, domain, etc.).  MS servers were a bit
more involved.

Anyways, now I don't have to move files in reverse. Sweet!  Thanks Mike.
