The last time I tried MythTV it was a major disappointment.  It just
wasn't worth the time I invested into it.  I think if I had the choice
between using MythTV and watching TV when the shows aired, I would have
chose the latter.

I would look at XBMC / Boxee, if you didn't need DVR capability.
