using the local accounts between machines. Rather you have to create
Samba accounts (<i>smbpasswd -a johndoe</i>) that match the local
accounts. Regardless I've still had authentication issues and have had
to mess with permissions on the files/directories being shared. With
sharing printers it was a matter of having to find the URI (or
something like that) of the shared printer and supplying that to the
add printer wizard on the client machine. Someone correct me if I'm
inadvertently spouting misinformation here.<br>

The RC totally destroyed my screen when it first came out and never
got it to work right. I am using an amd 64.

After Jim fantastic gift, I am now running 7.10 and it works great.
The repositories are not working yet though, and i can not get a
restricted driver to download...

I tried upgrading using the release candidate a few days ago and it died
after multiple errors 45% through the upgrade. I got the system back up
after the failed upgrade but since it was in an "unknowable" state I thought
a clean install would be more assuring. My system had a lot of odd tweaks
and such though, so I'm not surprised.

In the past I've found BitTorrent is the way to go for Ubuntu releases. I
usually max out my connection and download at 1.4 MB/s. Yes, that's
megabytes. ;)

Has anyone been using the release candidate, or the official release yet?
Mine has a few days on it and overall has been a good experience. The way
the desktop is presented after logon is better, since it updates the screen
all at once instead of sloppily building it piece at a time. There are still
a lot of bugs in Compiz though. I never thought I'd have "physics" problems
with my windows, haha.

Well, I haven't tried that, typically my "upgrades" don't turn out as well
as a fresh install.
For an upgrade, the supported method is via "update manager"

System &gt; Administration &gt; Update Manager

There will be a notification telling you there is a "New Distribution
release '7.10' is available" Then an upgrade button, I just don't know if I
trust the process. I plan to do a full backup of my home directory and
applications to the network, and then do a full install of 7.10.

 Hope this helps.
