Used laptop

I am currently running Ubuntu/Kubuntu 7.04 on an older desktop. I'd like 
to get a laptop, an ultralite, possibly as my primary machine. My 
thoughts run to a System76 Dart or a basic MacBook, but can't afford 
either of those at the moment.

Checking Craigslist, used IBM ultralites seem to be available relatively 
regularly at reasonable prices, e.g., X40s in the $400 range. And 
there's a salvager/resaler, TBF Computing, which might have a selection.

Two questions: [1] How hospitable would a system like this be to 
Ubuntu/Kubuntu? [2] Does anybody know anything about TBF?
