hi ubuntistas,
i recently visited the new watha t. daniel library in DC, which is
located on rhode island avenue -- right at the shaw/howard university
subway stop. this library is gorgeous and the basement meeting room
there is rather large.
i chatted a while with eric, the branch manager, who was real
accessible and open-minded. when i asked him about whether linux would
be coming to any of the DC libraries, he explained that he doesn't see
that happening.
they do have 20 windows laptops at this library that can be used in
the meeting room. it might be interesting to devise a free "Intro to
Ubuntu" workshop at this meeting room that makes use of those laptops
-- along with some ubuntu laptops brought by our ubuntu community
members. we could live boot the laptops, presumably.
anyway, i'm up for organizing some ubuntu gatherings/trainings at
this library. the meeting room is probably going to be fairly
popular on saturdays, so we might have to reserve it two or three
months ahead of time.
interestingly, i have some daytime hours free with my current work
schedule, so i could conceivably reserve that meeting room some
mornings. anyone else on this list have some morning hours available
to do some ubuntu stuff at this library? the mornings that would work
well for me are tuesday, thursday and friday.
i would imagine this meeting room has a projector available for us
to use.
