Hi,
I think I've mentioned this on the list once before, or perhaps I only
targeted a few people... About 12 years ago, there was a group known
as the DC Metropolitan Environmental Network (a.k.a. MetNet) which had
a monthly event: the Eco-Justice Coffeehouse. Unfortunately they ran
out of funding. But, like the proverbial phoenix, it has risen from
the ashes as MetNet 2.0, and now hosts the "EcoJustice Cafes" once a
month. So trendy, what with the "2.0" and the "Cafe" instead of
"Coffeehouse". ;-)
The point is that anyone with even a marginally social justice and/or
environmental angle is welcome to hawk (or dove) their wares. (As an
example of just how marginal, at the first one, there was a woman
offering massages, which seemed like a bit of a stretch to me, but
hey, what do I know?) Some people were selling things like a
telescoping, reusable metal cup, as an environmental alternative to
throw-away drink containers. I brought some Ubuntu CD's to the first
one, and handed out a few, but I'm thinking about bringing an XO and
some more Ubuntu CD's to the next one. So, those of you who see
refurbished computers in an environmental light, or FLOSS and
low-powered, low-cost computers as a social justice / education issue
(me and me, at least), might want to put in an appearance.
The fare iat the first one was vegetarian, but rather sparse, and the
beer went quickly as well. Arrive early.
Fridays from 6 to 10pm at UDC's Firebird Inn: 4200 CT. Ave., NW, WDC 20008
on 11/14, 12/5, 1/9/09, 2/6, 3/6, 4/3, 5/1 and 6/5.
Live music, poetry, food, drink, $10 donation requested.
