[DC LoCo] Looking for some input on curriculum ideas for a middle school Ubuntu PC lab

Bud,

IMO - the Ubuntu lab should not be a just a Linux (or computing) lab. Open source should not be just for geeks :)

Why not do anything and everything! Kids can do internet research, using office software, GIMP, etc etc... get the teachers to start using schooltool calendar...

to help my son's school put together an Edubuntu computer lab. The
headmaster is on board. I can handle the install/config part, but am
open to curriculum ideas.

So far, I'm thinking:

1. Teach how to install/operate Apache
2. Teach basic Python
3. Teach Mysql-backend to Apache (with PHP or Python?)
4. Set up an in-school email server

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bud Roth

Intellectual property can stimulate innovation, so can war... in both cases the negatives don't justify the 'progress'.... In recent times, humanity has spent more effort in producing smaller mp3 players and cell-phones than clean water and sanitation for everybody... isn't it time to reevaluate how we motivate people?
