Jim, I downloaded both the Pro and the Games version. We use MS Exchange
Server at work (CSU) for email/calendar, and I wanted to have a way to
connect to Exchange. Evolution will let you connect to Exchange, but I
don't believe that it works with anything newer than MS Server 2003 (it
hasn't worked for me...). Anyway, with the Crossover Pro software, I was
able to install Office 2007 (believe me, I would never have installed this
but it sure makes it easier to interface with our mail server at work...),
and it works great! No problems so far. It's a little bit slow, but that's
understandable considering that Outlook has got to be the biggest piece of
bloatware out there. Regardless, it's working great, and I have no
complaints except that I'd rather not have to use Outlook. [?]
I'm not really a gamer, so I have not yet tried out the Games version of the
software... so I cannot tell you anything specific about how that works. If
you are not sure what to do with the files, but you wish to try the
software, first you will want to change permissions on the file(s) and make
them executable, and then you will want to execute one of the files.
$ chmod u=rwx install-crossover-pro-7.1.0.sh
$ ./install-crossover-pro-7.1.0.sh
Once you execute the file, that will invoke the Windows installation
environment.
