If I understand your proposal correctly,  Freenode (or entropy) on top
of mesh,  then that would be quite a bit slower.  I think you want to
show the benefits of meshing over the software-freedom aspect.  The
way I used to do this was take out a voip wifi handset and roam
between two mesh nodes.
