If you've ever fancied the idea of getting into parallel programming on the
hobbyist level or finding out how you could get into learning it without
great expense you will want to join us at the Fountaindale LIbrary for what
will be an interesting and intriguing presentation and discussion hosted by
Raymond Hightower on what it takes to do it.

*This event is free and open to the public.*
Abstract

Speed matters. For certain problems, parallel computing blows away the
serial style we learned in school. What's a cool way for serially-trained
developers to explore parallelism? Consider Parallella
<https://www.parallella.org/>: An 18-core, credit card sized computer that
developers can use to start learning parallel computing today. Parallella
runs Linux, the hardware is open source, and you can buy it online for
$150. This talk will feature a Parallella running a Ruby on Rails app with
parallel processing behind the scenes. Example source code will be
available on GitHub. You can start learning parallel computing today.

As usual we will be having a "Meeting After the Meeting" for talk and
drinks, and since the general meeting is on Thursday we are planning the
meeting afterwards at the Bulldog Alehouse restaurant in Bolingbrook on
Weber Rd <http://www.bulldogalehouse.com/location-bolingbrook.php>. The
link goes to the restaurant's Bolingbrook website with a clickable,
expandable map.
