I fixed it by running firefox -p and starting a new profile. Its a known bug in Karmic.

Try deleting your ~/.mozilla

Caveats:
1. You might want to export your bookmarks first.
2. If you're running other Mozilla products like Thunderbird, YOU COULD
LOSE ALL YOUR MAIL.
