[Ubuntu Chicago] jaunty upgrade broke my laptop :(

Sure. I went to my oldest kernel i had, booted into recovery mode and
then using a root prompt I did an aptitude update and then aptitude
full-upgrade. then I grabbed a whole bunch of packages and rebooted
and everything worked.
