[Ubuntu Chicago] To Clean GRUB, or not

here is a post on a decent blog that explains how to do it:
http://tombuntu.com/index.php/2007/10/17/remove-ubuntu-kernels-you-dont-need/

you can also edit the menu.lst file that control the grub screen. you need
to sudo to change it. It is usually located in /boot. If you google
something like "menu.lst grub edit ubuntu" you will find instructions.
There is some guidance within the menu.lst file itself as I recall.
