[Ubuntu Chicago] Student Laptop Issue

seems the fs is corrupted  (as evidenced by EXT3-fs: group descriptors
corrupted!)

I would boot a live cd and run fsck on the partition, then if necessary
rebuild the journal with tune2fs -j /partiition/you/messedwith
