Eddie,
Why "sudo aptitude install linux-headers-$(uname -r)" which seems to be
installing for 2.6.17-12?
Also, from that it seems you're still running the feisty kernel.
Probably causing all your troubles.
Finally, why not "sudo aptitude install linux-headers-generic",
descriptions says it will always depend on the latest linux-headers.
For what it is worth, I installed virtual box on Ubuntu a few weeks ago
without any issue that I can remember except that it wouldn't run my
VMWare WinXP installation. BTW, virtually is the only way to run
Windows, IMO. Never run windows on bare metal!
