James, there's a current Ubuntu / Google Summer of Code project working on
this right now.  Here's the wiki for it:

I think that the person working on it for Summer of Code is accepting name
suggestions for it now, but I've lost the link.  It was up on planet.ubuntu.
I think this is a great idea.  :-)
