Someone posted about having documentation that would help new users get
used to Ubuntu Linux. I used the Ubuntu desktop guide to help me get
started. The webpage for it is here
https://help.ubuntu.com/pdf/ubuntu/C/desktopguide.pdf and it gives alot
of tips on how to set up a basic system. Its 80 pages long but I use it
as a reference whenever I need help. Hopefully this helps in giving an
idea what newbies use when they first move to linux.
