Ubuntu Chicago!
Hey guys, I got this cool site from one of the CoD LUG guys last night on IRC.
It is called FREE GEEK Chicago http://www.freegeekchicago.org/
What they do is take old machine, refurbish them and install a GNU/Linux
variant on them. Right now they are installing Xubuntu on the older machines.
They recently did a ShipIt for a mass amount of Ubuntu and Kubuntu CDs for a
show they are planning.
They are volunteer based, so I thought this might be a great opportunity for
us. It gives us the opportunity to advocate Ubuntu on a larger scale for one,
plus it can help us develop some sort of support as well as give us
opportunities to help instruct new users on their system.
Right now they operate on Sundays only from about 11am to 4pm. I am going to
try and make it out there next week, so if anyone is interested, please
contact them through the volunteer email they have setup for more information
as well.
I spoke with Jim and he is a great guy. If you guys get anymore information or
know more, please let us know. Thanks everyone!
