Komputers 4 R Kids (K4RK) is a non-profit charity based in Cerritos.
They refurbish computers systems and resell them to the general public,
offering heavily discounted prices for low-income households. Some of
you may have seen them at SCaLE the past three years. K4RK recently
contacted us because they want to offer Ubuntu on their computers. They
already use Ubuntu for Spanish-speaking households and recognize the
value an Ubuntu-based computer would offer a beginning high school
student over the course of his studies.

They have two proposals that they would like to undertake with our
assistance.

1. They would like to donate computers running Ubuntu to 50 in-need
students in a local school district. For this they are requesting
install guidance, beginning documentation to distribute to the students,
and a presentation team to lead an orientation event on the day when the
students are presented with their new computers.

2. They have asked whether Ubuntu California would be willing to advise
them on minimum system requirements, marketing information, and provide
technical training for their technicians so they can gradually begin
offering Ubuntu on their computers more generally.

I think this is a worthy project and one which has the potential to help
a lot of kids while spreading awareness of Ubuntu.
