[ubuntu-uk] partitioning

Many thanks for your responses.  I only get the daily digest of ubuntu-uk
so forgive me if there have been some responses that cross in the mail.
Since my original post I have been doing more research.  TBH I cannot
recall ticking the LVM option when doing the original install some years
ago.

I even researched some of the command line things for LVM - just as
confusing.  Some outputs of some commands though may be useful here:-

As yet I have done no more and thought it best to post back these outputs
first.
Does the plan of removing the secondary partition and the extended
partition inside still good?  How exactly do I do that - with a Gparted
livecd?  Or a Ubuntu livecd?
Do i use a Gparted liveCD to resize afterwards?  Or can I use the LVM GUI?

In /dev notation exactly what is the secondary partition and extended
partition?
My understanding, which I accept is likely to be wrong, is that I must keep
and not mess with /dev/sda1 - that is where my MBR and GRUB sits; .dev/sda2
and /dev/sda5 is just confusing me no end.  I guess /dev/sda2 is what is
holding all my original stuff from the 60GB disc I cloned so it does not
make sense to me to delete it?

And you guessed right Liam - I do not run in my bare feet! ;)
