I (and many others) certainly had some problems with a nasty compiz
crasher yesterday and this morning. I believe this was ironed out with
a workaround. Have you updated since about lunchtime today?

I'd certainly hang out in #ubuntu-unity and ask there. However you
might find more success on Monday. It's been a tough week for the
Unity/Comiz devs and I wouldn't be surprised if they take the weekend off!

Maybe use Unity 2D in the meantime.
