Well, no. If there's but on abandoned bug report I can quite understand
the limited resources instead being directed at bugs that're affecting
a large number of users, or even just particularly useful users

*everything* appears to be "the one thing" that keeps people away from
Ubuntu right now. You're the only person I've seen to have come across
this, and I can present a list of several other reasons people stick
with Windows if you like.

So at least there's an easy workaround. I'm afraid that, too, will
lower the priority of fixing the bug itself.

I don't know. That's the sort of thing you'd find out from the bug
tracker.
