Hi, that worked I got it back, and comparing my other machine, it had 
changed compiz>Preferences>Backend rom gconf configuration backend to 
the other option, which took away unity....but I have no windows 
comtrol, and there are no borders around the windows and I cant close, 
minimize reduce anything, each window I open opens in the left corner, 
and right up the top of the screen which causes the panel to hide.....I 
can move the windows using Alt then pressing the curser, but I cant 
close them, so got loads of windows open but noway to close.....
