[ubuntu-uk] Segmentation faults

Hello

I have been experiencing a number of errors recently, with programs crashing reporting seg faults. 

I have run a memory test and removed what I thought was a suspect stick of ram, but the errors have increased.

Are increased frequency of seg faults an indication of something, hard disk hardware faults, dodgy ram or do I need to reformat the drive (it is ext3 at the moment). I've looked online and found many references to seg faults for specific programs, but my issue is affecting an increasing number of programs
